Health officials warn people infected with Monkeypox to stay away from household pets, because animals can risk capturing viruses.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention for Months has a suggestion when Monkeypox spread in the US but received new attention after a report from France, published last week in the Lancet medical journal, about Greyhound Italy who captured the virus.
The dog belongs to the couple who says they sleep with the animal. The two men were infected with Monkeypox after sex with other couples and ended with lesions and other symptoms. Greyhound then developed lesions and was diagnosed with a virus.
Monkeypox infection has been detected in mice and other wild animals, which can spread viruses to humans. But the author calls it the first report of monkeypox infection in pets such as dogs or cats.
Pets that come in contact with people who are symptomatic must be stored at home and far from other animals and people for 21 days after the latest contact, CDC suggested.
