New York, United States: CNN said on Tuesday it was suspended without limits of the primetime anchor Chris Cuomo after the release of legal transcripts that revealed how he helped his brother Andrew, then the Governor of New York, combat allegations of sexual violations.
At the beginning of the pandemic, the brothers surged to the height of the new popularity: Andrew Cuomo received praise for his daily briefing spoken when Coronavirus destroyed New York, and their direct exchanges in CNN were flavored with mockings.
But after months struggling to claim that he had harassed a dozen women including former staff, Andrew Cuomo resigned from the office in August.
In October, the former 63-year-old governor was charged with the worst sex crimes for forced touch.
And now, his 51-year-old brother is under supervision because of his involvement in his brother’s defense.
“The New York Attorney General’s Office released a Monday transcript and exhibition that spilled new light at Chris Cuomo’s involvement in his brother’s defense,” said CNN spokesman said Tuesday.
“Documents, which we are not privy before their public release, increase serious questions.”
The spokesman said that while CNN “understood his need to put his first family and second job” in helping Andrew, he said the transcript released by the Negeri General Lingitia James “showed a greater level of involvement in his brother’s efforts than we previously found out.”
“As a result, we have suspended Chris without limits, waiting for further evaluation.”
The brothers were the son of former New York Governor Mario Cuomo.
On Tuesday, the Cuomo program was replaced with a second hour anchored by Anderson Cooper. The network long-term plan to fill the time slot is not immediately clear.
