Timothée Chalamet’s Statement Overalls Are by One of Fashion’s Favorite Artists

Timothée Chalamet’s fashion sense is only getting more and more experimental. The actor, who styles himself, has never shied away from trying out bold looks on the red carpet—harnesses included. On the promotional tour for his new film, The King, Chalamet has busted out some seriously showstopping ensembles, such as the sequin-covered Louis Vuitton hoodie he wore just last week. Today, for an event in Busan, South Korea, he took things to another level with a fashion-forward take on overalls. (Yes, overalls.) The denim onesie was not a vintage find but rather the work of an in-demand artist who has collaborated with top designers such as Raf Simons.

The head-to-toe ensemble was designed by the American artist Sterling Ruby as part of his new clothing line, S.R. STUDIO. LA. CA., which features an array of splattered pieces and acid wash denim with the same graphic aesthetic as his artwork. “I don’t see it as any different to making a sculpture or painting,” he told Vogue about designing his new collection. Ruby has no background in traditional design, though he has collaborated with Simons during his tenures at Christian Dior and Calvin Klein. Chalamet is also clearly a fan. The actor wore Ruby’s hand-dyed overalls atop a long-sleeved denim button-down in the same pattern. He even wore shoes by the artist—a stark white Chelsea-rain boot hybrid with a thick lug sole. The result was yet another daring fashion moment that shows Chalamet can pull off virtually anything.
