Dubai: The United Arab Emirates said that Monday shot down a ballistic missile fired by Houthi Yemeni rebels, in all three events like this this month, when Israeli President visited the country.
The UAE Defense Ministry, part of a Saudi-led military coalition, which fought Iran’s supported rebels, said there were no victims on the morning attack.
“Air Defense Forces … tapping and destroying ballistic missiles launched by Houthi terrorist groups in the UAE,” said the ministry, according to the official WAM news agency.
It was said that the fragments of debris fell “outside the population”, without providing further details.
The ministry said it was responding to the attack by destroying missile launch sites in the North Al-Jawf region of Yemen.
It also released black and white snippets from explosions and black smoke feathers.
The Monday attack marked the third since without drones and missile attacks that killed three oil workers on January 17. The second was intercepted by UAE a week later.
The January 17 attack was the first deadly in the UAE claimed by Houthi, who also vowed to keep their attacks.
The last attack occurred when Ishak Herzog made his first visit to the UAE by the President of Israel since the two countries normalized the bond in 2020.
However, a statement from his office on Monday said that he would “continue his visit according to plan”.
Houthis who was supported by Iran began targeting the interests of the UAE after a series of defeats in the land in Yemen, which was caused by the UAE-mailed giant brigade militia.
In early January, the rebels grab the UAE merchandise in the Red Sea, said it was carrying weapons – claims were rejected by Emirates.
Warning more attacks
Rebel military spokesman Yahya Saree will announce the details of the “large-scale military operation” targeting the UAE later on Monday, said a Houthi statement.
Saree “warns foreign companies, citizens and residents in the UAE that they will not hesitate to expand the target to include more important sites and facilities”, he added.
The United States condemned the latest attack.
“We condemn the latest Houthi missile attacks in Abu Dhabi. While Israeli President visited the UAE to build bridges and promote stability in all regions, Houthi continued to launch an attack that threatened civilians,” Foreign Ministry spokesman tweeted.
The UAE defense ministry said he would blow up the launch site at 12:50 a.m. (2050 GMT), exactly 30 minutes after the missile was intercepted.
Emirates stressed “Full readiness to handle any threat” and will “take all the steps needed to protect the UAE from any attack”, he added.
The UAE authority said that the incident did not have an impact on air traffic, with flight operations running normally.
And they have promised that Houthi’s attack will not be “new normal” for rich Gulf countries, trade hubs, business and tourism and major oil exporters.
“It won’t be a new normal for UAE,” said Senior Emirati officials told AFP last week, provided that anonymity.
“We refuse to approve the threat of Houthi terror that targets people and our way of life,” added the official.
In 2019, UAE pulled his troops from Yemen but remained an influential player. It also hosts American forces and is one of the largest weapons buyers in the world.
The Yemeni Civil War began in 2014 when Houthis won the capital Sanaa, encouraged Saudi LED forces to intervene to support the government the following year.
