Omicron variants that have more infectious Omicron more than Coronavirus have emerged in more European countries, just days after being identified in South Africa, leaving the government throughout the world scrambling to stop the spread.
England on Saturday tightened the rules on mask-wearing and on international arrival testing after finding two cases. New cases confirmed on Saturday in Germany and Italy, with Belgium, Israel and Hong Kong also reported that variants have been found in tourists.
In the US, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the government’s top infectious disease expert, said he would not be surprised if the Omicron variant was in the United States too.
“We haven’t detected it yet, but when you have a virus that shows this level of transmission … it’s almost always going to go basically,” Fauci said on NBC television.
Because of the fear that this new variant has the potential to be more resistant to the protection offered by the vaccine, there are concerns that develop throughout the world so that pandemic restrictions and related locking will last longer than expected.
