The prices of gasoline and diesel remained unchanged on June 10 after reaching new record maximum of the day before. The increase on June 9 was the 22nd increase in prices since May 4, when state oil companies ended an 18-day pause in the review of rates that observed during the assembly elections in some states.

As prices did not change the day, the price of gasoline remained at RS 95.56 per liter while Diesel RS 86.47 per liter in Delhi.

Similarly, in Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata, both fuels continued to be sold at the rate of the previous day.

In Mumbai, a liter of cost of RS 101.76 gasoline, while Diesel had a price of RS 93.85. The capital of Maharashtra, on May 29, became the first meter in the country where gasoline was sold at the RS 100-A-LEBER brand.

The price of gasoline was RS 96.94 per liter and Diesel was RS 91.15 per liter in Chennai.

Fuel prices were also maintained at Kolkata, where a liter of gas cost RS 95.52, while Diesel with a price of RS 89.32.

Oil companies review gasoline and diesel rates daily based on the average price of reference fuel in the international market in the previous 15 days and exchange rates.

Fuel prices differ from state to state, depending on the incidence of local taxes, such as VAT and freight charges. Rajasthan imposes the highest VAT in gasoline and diesel in the country, followed by Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Telaraza.

Meanwhile, Congress will celebrate symbolic protests in gas pumps across the country on June 11 against increasing fuel prices and demanding its withdrawal.
